Patches strategy: reason through every rectangle
Learn to enumerate shapes, eliminate overlap and find cells with only one legal covering rectangle.
List the possible dimensions
Factor the area before drawing. For area 6, consider 1×6, 2×3, 3×2 and 6×1. Remove dimensions that violate the shape icon, cross a board edge or contain another clue.
Use what is already occupied
A completed patch removes space from neighboring clues. Revisit those neighbors before trying a distant corner. If one clue has only one legal rectangle left, that rectangle is forced.
Look for a cell with only one cover
A clue may have several options while an empty cell can only be reached by one of them. Since every cell must be covered, that rectangle must be chosen. Hard boards deliberately include this kind of deduction.
Reconsider mistakes without guessing
A valid-looking rectangle can still block the unique solution. If a hint flags a conflict, remove that patch and check its neighbors. All stored explanations are verified before publication; assisted and independent results are kept distinct.
